About Us

  • Thank you for visiting our site and allowing us to introduce ourselves. The goal of Dr. Bert Geer and the staff is to provide attentive and individualized care to every patient. Whether you have problems such as incontinence, irregular bleeding, or menopausal symptoms, or simply need a yearly preventive exam, our experienced providers and highly trained staff are here to meet your needs in a friendly and compassionate manner.

In order to provide excellence in women’s healthcare, our staff strives to stay current with the latest advances in gynecology and urogynecology. Dr. Bert Geer has developed a reputation for excellence and medical expertise. We also consider patient education an essential component of superior quality care so that patients can take an active role in maintaining their well-being. Understanding and compassion matched with highly developed skills and knowledge make Cookeville Gynecology & Urogynecology a distinguished practice in the Upper Cumberland.

In 2014 Dr. Bert Geer became the first physician in the region to be board-certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery also known as urogynecology. The subspecialty certification recognizes physicians with expertise in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunctions in women. Effective January 1, 2024, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and the American Board of Urology (ABU) changed the name of the jointly sponsored subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) to Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS). Dr. Geer offers a variety of specialized conservative (nonsurgical) and surgical treatment options for patients.

  • Working together to provide the highest quality of gynecologic and urogynecologic care to our patients in the Upper Cumberland.

  • At Cookeville Gynecology & Urogynecology we seek to provide the highest level of care through our highly skilled health care professionals and state of the art technologies. We are devoted to addressing the individual needs and demands of patients in a warm and caring environment. Our goal is to offer patient centered care based on mutual trust and communication.

  • After providing obstetrical and gynecological care to the Upper Cumberland for 14 years, Dr. Geer found it difficult to keep up with the rapidly growing fields of OBGYN and urogynecology which had always been a strong focus in his practice. Due to this, he made the decision to focus entirely on Gynecology and Urogynecology. He then became the first Masters trained robotic surgeon in the region. Cookeville Gynecology was opened in 2011, and he was joined by Tara Masters & Sarah Brady, both of whom are excellent Nurse Practitioners specializing in women’s health. In 2017, we added Meghan Herren, Nurse Practitioner, as another excellent provider to our practice. In 2024 Shelia Hurley, Professor of Nursing at the TTU Whitson-Hester School of Nursing, joined the practice on a part time basis.

In 2013 the ACGME Accreditation Counsel made Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) a full subspecialty of OB/GYN. This subspecialty, previously referred to as Urogynecology, focuses on female pelvic health, pelvic organ prolapse, and incontinence. Based on Dr. Geer’s experience in this field, he met the stringent requirements and was invited to sit for the FPMRS subspecialty boards. In 2014 he became the first and only physician in the Upper Cumberland to achieve board certification in FPMRS. Efective January 1, 2024 the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and the American Board of Urology (ABU) changed the name change of the jointly sponsored subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) to Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS)

We strive to stay up to date with advances in our field and continue to add services and programs to our practice in order to provide better service and care for our patients. We are the first to offer minimal sedation in the office for gynecology and urogynecology.

  • We appreciate you visiting our website. It continues to be a work in progress, and our goal is for it to be an informative resource for our patients to learn about our practice and the field of Gynecology & Urogynecology (URPS).
